A Shared Pulse – juried Group Art Exhibition

August 4 @ 10:00 am - September 26 @ 5:00 pm
Free

I am thrilled to be included in this juried group exhibition at the Cape Breton Centre for Craft & Design. My piece “Between the Tide”, captures the moment of pause, the brief interval between the receding tide and the suspended stillness before its return to shore. In this moment the ocean floor and tidal pools reveal a microcosm of rich remnants. This moment mirrors the pause between our in and out breath, inviting us to tune into the rhythm of the ocean.
My work is deeply rooted in the fragile marine and coastal environment of the Bay of Fundy in rural Nova Scotia, where I live. The experience of the viewer is at the heart of my work, ultimately focusing on connection and relationships. My intent is to evoke a memory or feeling of water, movement, light, a suspended moment in time.
Making by hand is central to my creative process and it grounds me in the textural qualities of silk, linen and wool. My practice is informed by formal art training and art history, but the actual making is intuitive. Colour plays a vital role in my practice. Mixing silk dyes and inventing new colour combinations, helps me express my love for nature’s beauty and vulnerability. I paint original designs on volumes of silk and linen then deconstruct and collage these pieces using thousands of meters of embroidery thread and hand stitching.
